8 tips for a drive by baby shower

If you can’t be together to celebrate the day, celebrate in a different way – with a drive by shower! With covid still ruining events, people are becoming creative with all sorts of ideas from mail-in showers to virtual to drive by! I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these become the new normal.

Our sweet family friends threw us a drive by baby shower a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to recap some of the ideas they used since I know a lot of people are looking for ideas on drive by events:

  1. Send invitations
With all of the days running together (thanks covid!), send invitations for the drive by shower, whether they are formal invitations or a quick Facebook event! Minted and Photo Affections are two great sites for formal invitations. I used Photo Affections for our wedding save the dates and loved them. Not to mention, Photo Affections gives you 85 free prints each month for a year if you buy invitations from them! Paperless post and Evite are two online invitation companies with reasonable prices. They also have options to add reminders before the event.
  2. Have a start (and end) time
This will help guests know the window to drive by and drop off a gift. Another idea is to schedule different times for people to drive by so you can socialize and social distance. With either option, just make sure you have a start time!
  3. Decorate the front yard with streamers and signs
Decorations make any event more fun! Our family friends had the cutest signs and streamers in the front yard to celebrate the occasion. This was such a fun idea.
  4. Decorate cars
Decorate cars with writing, signs or balloons. Another idea is to have guests do a parade in their cars. They can line up and honk and wave as they drive by. I’ve seen this with drive by birthday parties!
  5. Ask someone to video and/or take pictures
Even if you have to wear a mask, this is a celebration you won’t want to forget! Ask someone to take videos or pictures. Definitely a memory to look back on and show your baby.
  6. Have drinks and a table ready in case guests come out of their car to drop off a gift. Encourage masks if anyone gets out of their car (if you are social distancing), and have drinks ready (especially if it’s a hot day!) and a table to put gifts on!
  7. Play music
Music makes everything more fun! Have music playing in the background for the ambiance. #frontyardparty!
  8. Party favors
A small treat to thank guests for stopping by! Our sweet family friends had a bag with champagne and delicious brownie/cookie dough bites. There are so many cute party favor ideas on Pinterest.

Hope these tips helped, they can work for any occasion – baby shower, bridal shower or even a birthday! Do you have any other tips to throw a virtual or drive by shower?
